Reality
is only an illusion.
Except for those who can control it…
Worst. Birthday. Ever.
My first boyfriend dumped me – happy birthday, Josie!- my dad is who knows where, I have some weird virus that makes me want to hurl, and now my ex is licking another girl’s tonsils. Oh, and I’m officially the same age as my brother was when he died. Yeah, today is about as fun-filled as the swamps of Dagobah. But then weird things start happening…
Like
I make something materialize just by thinking about it.
When hot badass Reid Wentworth shows up on a motorcycle, everything changes. Like, everything. Who I am. My family. What really happened to my brother. Existence. I am Oculi, and I have the ability to change reality with my thoughts. Now Reid, in all his hotness, is charged with guiding and protecting me as I begin learning how to bend reality. And he’s the only thing standing between me and the secret organization that wants me dead…
Interview
with Reid Wentworth
How
old are you?
Nineteen, almost twenty. Why does it matter?
Where
did you grow up?
In the Hub, which is short for the largest
Resistance Hub in the North America located outside Denver in the mountains.
That’s the most I can really tell you. It’s a contained, self-sufficient
village, including school. Besides academics, we learned hand-to-hand combat
skills, in depth weapons training, in addition to Pushing and Retracting
reality.
Who
are your family members?
My mom, who passed away almost three years ago. My
dad, who is missing and most likely being held by the Consortium or dead. And
me.
What
is something you hope to do someday?
Besides hoping to not have to watch over my shoulder
for someone trying to take me out? Hadn’t really given it much thought. When
you’re not sure if you’re going to live to see the next day, you tend not to
set your expectations too high. Now that I’ve spent time with Josie though, I
think I’ll actually have a list of things I’d like to accomplish either with
her or because of her.
What’s
your job and do you enjoy it?
I’m a trainer for the Resistance, escorting Oculi to
the main Hub or helping guide them as they learn how to use and manage their
new abilities they acquire around their 17th birthday. Do I enjoy
it? It’s fine. Someone has to do it and I’m young enough I think I can relate
to most trainees well. Josie’s different though. *smiles* Yeah, I enjoy my job
with her.
What
do you do for fun?
Not long ago I would’ve said ride my bike fast,
workout to blow off steam, or watch a movie on a rare occasion. Now, doing
anything with Josie. She makes me laugh.
Who
is someone you look up to and why?
My dad. He helped form the Resistance, standing up
to an organization wanting to police Oculi. That takes guts, determination, and
passion.
Can
you name someone who has surprised you and in what way?
That’s easy - Josie Harper. She’s not your typical
scifi nerd or borderline genius. *shakes head* She faces problems head on,
she’s compassionate, she’s brave. She can handle stress like no other. And she
is so funny and adorable, I…*clears throat* Yeah.
