What's Up Wednesday for July 31, 2013

What's Up Wednesday is a weekly meme brought to you by Jaime Morrow and Erin Funk. Check out the links to see what other authors are up to.

What I'm Reading:

For fun I'm *still* reading STATISTICAL PROBABILITY OF LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT, which I'm confident I will have finished before my next WUW post. For real this time. I swear.

And all the ARCs have landed in my mailbox this week and I am drowning in them at the moment. Which, really, is not a bad place to be drowning if you have to drown somewhere.

**Update post-posting** I just finished Leonard Peacock, and OMG. This book is going to change the way people think. Love, love, LOVE Matthew Quick! Review coming very soon to this blog. Like possibly Friday.

What I'm Writing:

I am in the final stages what my Agent-Goddess and I both hope will be the last revision pre-market. Which is TERRIFYING. Any and all insights left in comments are beyond appreciated.

Also catching up/getting ahead on some book blogging. Some awesome reviews and giveaways coming in August, so stay tuned!

What Else I'm Up To:

I had this moment of actual whining in the grocery store the other day when I saw their ginormous Back to School display. Back to School for me means back to work and back to juggling the full time day job, writing career, part time freelance gig and full-time Momma gig.

So at the moment, I'm not up to much other than writing and Momma-ing because I'm going to enjoy doing both these last few weeks if it kills me.

Oh! And I'm going to my favorite Japanese restaurant tonight with my girl Susan where drinks and sushi and excessive quantities of fried rice will be consumed and shenanigans will be discussed and work will not be discussed and that's exciting.

What Inspires Me:

Last week I didn't post because I was in Orlando visiting the parental units, which was, yeah not a vacation at all. But I did get to catch up with a few friends who hadn't been to my parents' place in a while and were awed and probably a little creeped out that my room looks EXACTLY like it did the day I left for college.

It's a little creepy.

But it's also inspiring for me as a writer of YA because there's so much teen angst to be found between those four walls that, for me, it balances out the creep factor quite nicely.

So what's up in your writerly neck of the woods? Let me hear from ya!

  1. That is so cool that your room is the same! Man, I'd love to walk into pre-college Jaime's room and remind myself what it looked like. I seem to recall plenty of fun posters and whatnot, but I'd love to refresh my memory.

Having ARCs show up in your mailbox is definitely awesome. I have one that I'm dying to read, so that's got me pretty excited. And how awesome that you're in the final stages of the final revision of your book. That must be so exhilarating!

Have a great week, Dannie! :-)

  2. It's good that the writing inspiration was there to balance out the creepy factor of your parents not letting go. If you really wanted to, you could probably redecorate your old room yourself, or just leave it as a time capsle forever. Whatever works.

    1. I live four states away, so redecorating isn't an option, but I'm not sure I would! LOL I love the inspiration.

  3. That's so exciting about your book! I'll have to check those books out, happy writing & non writing! School (college classes) starts soon for me as well so I'm just enjoying relaxation and writing time while I have it.

  6. I hear ya about the full-time day job and the full-time momma gig with a part time job and trying to write. After 21 years, I finally gave up the day job. I'm a lot poorer for it, and yet a lot richer too. But good luck - enjoy the next few weeks! And try to avoid those ginormous back-to-school displays!

  7. Yeah... I agree that it's awesome that your parents kept your room as-is. My parents have moved a few times since I moved out, and sold/donated most of the stuff I didn't take with me. Now I regret not having a lot of that teen-angst-inducing stuff. :-) Best of luck with your edits this week!

  8. My parents moved not long after I moved out, so I think I was the last occupant of my pre-university room. I still remember what it was like, though. Vividly. What can I say? I preferred the company of my books and my music. :)

I have to say, I LOVE your "How I Got an Agent" story, Dannie. At some point in the future, I want to link to it and use it as an example of how flexible and patient agents can be when they really like your work. My favorite line: "NO ONE IS HURRYING IN PUBLISHING SO YOU SHOULDN'T EITHER." :)

All the best with edits, revisions, and life this week! :)

    1. Link away, Colin! That is a lesson I'm still learning as I plow my way through my line edits this week.
