The
emphasis here is on begin. We’ve still got to dig deeper into who your MC is, what
he wants, what stands in his way, and what’s at stake. And we’ve got plenty of
time to do it.
For
pantsers who like to do a little
planning before they start drafting, this is probably the most intensive
structural work you’ll do. It tells you
a little bit about where you’re headed and how you’re going to get there.
These
milestone moments have names in the world of writing craft, but we’re not
getting into that yet. Today we’re just thinking about the most powerful
moments in your book. What are the moments you know MUST exist in this story?
Look
back at the
list of scenes you brainstormed. Put asterisks or highlight the ones you
know you absolutely must have. Which characters will be involved? Where will
they be?
Today’s
links are mostly for people who are plotting for the first time or who haven’t
had a lot of formal education in writing plot. But they’re a good refresher for
