What's Up Wednesday for August 13, 2013

What's Up Wednesday is a weekly meme brought to you by Jaime Morrow and Erin Funk. Check out the links to see what other authors are up to.

Hi Peeps! What's up with YOU this week??

WHAT I'M READING
I just finished CONJURED by Sarah Beth Durst, which comes out next month from Bloomsbury and is SO cool. Getting ready to dive into THE CINDERELLA MOMENT by Jennifer Kloester, an upcoming title from Swoon Romance. Reviews for both coming to the blog later this month.

WHAT I'M WRITING
As of today I'm officially diving full-force into my new project. The problem is I can't decide if that project is YA Urban Fantasy or New Adult Contemp. I'm hoping the feedback I get on both projects via WriteOnCon will nudge me in one direction or the other. (Hint, Hint, click the links hint hint)  ;)

WHAT ELSE I'M UP TO
Living and breathing WriteOnCon and getting ready to check out my office in my school's brand new building next week! I'm excited about the building, not so much about going back to work. Sigh.

WHAT'S INSPIRING ME
This absolutely stunning character sketch that L.L. Tisdel did of one of my main characters in my new WIP. I've never had anyone do fan art of my characters before, and I think it's just the coolest thing ever.

So what's up with YOU? And if you're participating, what's your favorite thing about #WriteOnCon this year? Working on a wrap up post.

  1. I was lucky enough to get one of those Tisdel sketches too...made me all giddy, and it IS inspiring to have someone else visualize what is in your head. My hubs says if I can get this book published it should be a tattoo to commemorate, regardless of who does the final illustrations. Good luck, if you're pitching!

  4. I participated in WriteOnCon last year, but haven't gone over yet this year. I've strongly been leaning towards feeling my books with younger characters have a more adult than YA feel, but I'd like to at least check out what other YA historical writers have going on. At least one person there last year did suggest I might consider querying one of my books as adult.

    1. I've seen a few Historical YAs on the board, though that's not really my cup of tea, so I haven't been looking. I do know quite a few agents looking for Historical right now. Have you considered an online board like Scribophile as a test market?

  5. Woman, where's your link so I can pop right over on WriteOnCon? Eh?

That's so hard when you have a project that refuses to define itself. But then, it also says it has a degree of independence and life of its own, and that's never a bad thing with a WIP, eh?

  6. Ooo, fun fan art! That's very cool. Isn't it great to have options between stories to work on? I'm in a similar boat and I think it's kind of fantastic. YA Urban Fantasy sounds especially great right now. I've been craving that very thing lately. Good luck choosing!

Have a great week, Dannie. :)

  7. I love that art! I think what I'm loving most about WriteOnCon is just the ability to see all the kinds of stuff that goes on at a conference without actually being at a conference, since I don't think I'll be able to go to a real one for a long time! Plus the community aspect of it is awesome :)
